As a passion project outside of work, I am collecting stories about strange, haunted, eerie, emotional, or otherwise unexplainable experiences connected to buildings and places.
If you’re willing, I’d love for you to share a story with me.
My working title is “THE HAUNTED PLACES PROJECT”
I’m especially interested in the relationship between architecture, memory, atmosphere, landscape, and haunting. Through stories, I hope to understand the way certain spaces seem to hold onto something long after people leave. These stories may eventually inspire fiction, essays, an anthology, research for a future novel, or a digital archive/project on my website. It’s really a passion project, and as someone who has always loved southern gothic stories, I wanted to share this form with people from the south and beyond. You can be anonymous if you’d like, and whatever I do with the story, I’ll let you know about it first (if you provide contact info!)
Stories do NOT have to involve literal ghosts. For example, I’m interested in:
- historic houses
- strange hotels
- schools
- churches
- abandoned buildings
- farms
- mountain ranges
- something you saw in-between the trees
- hospitals
- family homes
- apartments
- workplaces
- rooms with “bad energy”
- recurring dreams tied to a place
- inherited stories
- local legends
- uncanny or unexplained experiences
