Sophie has written many things, and she’d love for you to read them.

Hi! My name is Sophie, and I am a writer, storyteller, and preservationist. Although I am a proud native North Carolinian with Appalachian roots, I now live New York City. In May 2025, I graduated from Columbia University’s Master of Science in Historic Preservation program. I also hold dual B.A. degrees in American Studies and English & Comparative Literature from UNC Chapel Hill.
At UNC, my honor’s thesis centered on how Young Adult novels characterize, stereotype, and tell of the American South. Building on research conducted at UNC’s Institute of African American Research, my award-winning Columbia graduate thesis examines the cultural and spiritual significance of “Haint Blue” — a traditional paint color rooted in the beliefs of enslaved people and their descendants. My preservation work uses materials as a lens to tell deeper, often overlooked stories of place, identity, and history.
✶
By day, I am a Historic Preservation, Cultural Research, and Architectural Documentation Specialist at an architecture firm in NYC. Off the clock, I am an author whose work straddles Young Adult and New Adult fiction, typically weaving together stories of growing up, humor, and (sometimes) ghosts. My writing is voice-driven and atmospheric, combining youthful energy with Southern Gothic flair.
✶
Sections of this website are dedicated to different genres of my writing: fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Each of these sections includes either samples or full works that I have written. For fiction, I have written two complete novel manuscripts and am working on my third. For each of these novels, I have a related Spotify playlist like the Gen Z woman I am. I’ve also included two silly, short fiction stories on this site. The nonfiction works on included here come from my graduate school work, though reports/stories/documents created for my preservation jobs are not included as they are the property of my employers. Finally, this website documents four of my poems, all of which have been published. If you are interested in reading more of any genre, let me know—I’d love to share more of my work with you. In all of my writing, I do not use AI.
✶
All of these works are my own. They are original literary works, with the fiction and poetry springing forth straight from my own synapses. As for nonfiction, all ideas, facts, and writing that are not my own are faithfully cited. The formation of ideas into arguments and theses are my own. Writing created for hired jobs, internships, and freelance work are excluded from this website; however, written works created for classes at UNC Chapel Hill and at Columbia University are included.
✶
In addition to my writing, I have an accolades page which lists awards (writing-related and otherwise) that I have won, as well as artlcies that mention me/my work. It’s not an exhaustive page, but it is like a mini CV that will help you get to know me and my passions a little better.
Finally, if you’d like to contact me, ask me a question, or read more, please don’t hesitate to reach out! I look forward to hearing from you.
